About the Labor Council
The Florida State Lodge Labor Council is designed to serve those who wish to be involved in collective bargaining or legal defense, or both, and want professional representation in these areas. Membership in the council is open to all law enforcement and correctional officers. Each unit selects a representative to the Council. The Council, through its unit representatives, establishes its own rules and standing policies, sets its dues and fee structures, hires attorneys and skilled negotiators and authorizes the expenditure of its funds. Each bargaining unit determines the scope and extent of its own bargaining and makes its own decisions in these matters. No outside individual or group may dictate what the unit will bargain for and what it will accept or reject negotiations or who it will use to negotiate for it. In this way, a local unit has the advantage of belonging to a large, well-funded group while maintaining its right of self determination in conjunction with the Florida Labor Council.
